New Life...

By Aaron Soderlund | posted 10/18/2007

"And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." (2 Corinthians 5:15)

It's amazing to think about the cycle of life. Beth and I went to see Keaton and Reid Watson last week and I was again amazed at the brilliance of life. Also visiting at the time were some other friends who are two months away from having their first child. In their eyes I could see the excitement of what they will soon experience. With me, were Beth and Nathan. Beth, if you didn't know, is pregnant and due in the first week of April.

I watched these newborn babies cry as they were undressed, weighed, and re-dressed and swaddled. Nathan, in the meantime, was running around the room pushing all of the buttons he could find. It was a little shocking to me considering it doesn't seem long ago that Nathan was the one crying as we put him on the scale.

But I think what struck me the most that day in the hospital room was the brilliance of God's creation. In this room, were two pregnant women, one that that had just given birth to twins, a mom of four (Becky's mom), the husbands who are still trying to figure things out, and Nathan. What an amazing array of life in one location. To see all stages of life in one quick glance.

The helplessness of the newborn babies. The pregnant stomachs of two young women and the unborn children inside even more helpless than the newborns. A new mom who had just met her baby boys for the first time and the love in her eyes that outweighed any pain she had. And a longtime mom of four and now grandma of two, that showed such precision in undressing these boys and taking care of her recovering daughter. And a boy that thinks he can do anything at a year and a half playing hide and seek behind the curtain.

Every age of God's creation is just as brilliant as the others. Not one of them can exist without the others. Where would the newborns be without their mom and dad to tend to their needs? Where would the new parents be without the help of their own parents? And where would a pregnant woman be without the joy and excitement of being able to see other babies and dream of their own that are soon to come? And where would we be without God to watch over us and protect us?

We need each other. God created us to be together. He has this amazing, flawless plan that has all of us dependent on each other in every stage of life. But to see all the different stages of life in one place amazed me.

There are sometimes when you cannot help but notice how masterful God is. Thinking back, that was one of those moments for me. God is good... All the time. God is also amazing... All the time.
