"People who blithely go through life too busy or indifferent to ask hard questions about why they believe as they do will find themselves defenseless against either the experience or tragedy or the probing questions of a smart skeptic" --Tim Keller

Fall 2009

The Know What You Believe Series is about asking hard questions of the big areas of faith, including what we believe about the Bible, Jesus, God, Satan and the Second Coming of Jesus. Students will be given devotions to be looking at throughout the week so they come prepared with some of their ideas. We want this to be a place to talk about our thoughts, questions, and doubts and practical ways of applying our faith in a plurastic culture. Discussion Leaders: JD Watson and Stacey Peterson

Parent Resource: Know What You Believe. This is the book that is guiding our discussion. We are expanding on what it is teaching and aligning the teachings with Covenant doctrine.

Oct 11 Intro
Oct 18 The Bible - What role will we allow this book to play in our lives? Is it really the Word of God? Could it have errors? Does 7 days, really mean 7 days? Why are there so many translations? Is it really relevant today?
Oct 25 God - If there is a God, what is he/she like? Is God some sort of cosmic counselor, or some old man zapping people from above? It's easy to use the name God, but often hard to describe. Does God really have the power to do anything? Is God really good? Does God have everything all planned out? How does free will work? What is the Trinity all about?
Nov 01 Jesus Christ - Who do you say Jesus is? Man? God? Prophet? We'll explore who Jesus is, the claims he made about himself and how he affects the Christian faith.
Nov 08 Jesus' Death & Resurrection - Couldn't God just forgive without having Jesus die on a cross? How does the cross affect us? How could Jesus, if he was God, go to hell? What evidence is there of the Resurrection?
Nov 15 Top Chef Challenge :-)
Nov 22 Man and Sin - Aren't people basically good? What is sin? Where does sin enter our lives?
Nov 29 Thanksgiving Weekend - No Classes
Dec 06 The Holy Spirit - Where is this Spirit? How can God be three persons if we believe there is just one God? How do you know you have the Holy Spirit?
Dec 13 Salvation - “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved”. What does that mean? Can you lose your salvation? Does God pick people or do you chose God?
Dec 20 Church & Things to Come - Why we do have to go to church on Sundays? What happens when you die? What is heaven? What is supposed to happen in the “end times”? What will a final judgment look like?
Dec 27 Christmas Weekend - No Classes
