Local Serving
Creekside wants to be a church that is concerned as much, if not more, about others than ourselves. We don't want service to be something that is "added to the schedule". We hope that service begins to flow out of our lives and becomes our daily worship. Whether it's helping a neighbor with a project, volunteering at a local non-profit or spending an extra hour with a friend over coffee, it's worship that is about bringing God's ways and His Kingdom, here in real, relevant, practical ways. We get to say to the people we serve that God loves them, and we get to say to God that we love Him!
Creekside wants to help bring Creeksiders together and help them grow in their faith as they work alongside each other, helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our community. We have opportunities to serve at the YWCA, Redmond Elementary (YES and the Neighborhood Schoolhouse), and in many other ways. Small groups are serving in different ways and places all over the eastside. We have three "Worship Thru Service" days planned each year where instead of having a Sunday morning worship service, we worship by serving others. To get involved or for more information, contact Lynn (425-376-1111 x40).
Neighborhood Schoolhouse
The Neighborhood Schoolhouse has many volunteer opportunities for both adults and students! You can work with children in their afternoon tutoring program or adults and families at various times during the week. Check out their web site for more information and a schedule. If you have questions, you can contact Jessica at 425-702-3409.
YWCA Family Village
The Family Village program provides transitional housing with on-site support services to help homeless families stabilize and become self-sufficient as they prepare to transition to independent living in permanent housing.
Family Village can house up to 20 families at a time. Families can stay up to 18 months, as long as they are actively participating in the program and working towards their self-sufficiency goals. We prioritize services to East King County residents and to victims of domestic violence.
Family Village is located in downtown Redmond, within two blocks of access to many Metro bus lines and a Park and Ride. There are grocery stores, parks, schools, a library and a post office within walking distance, and we are just seven blocks from the Family Resource Center, which houses 18 social service agencies.
Creekside is a "Welcome Home Group" for one of the apartments. One of our jobs is to fix the apartment up whenever new residents are moving in. This involves cleaning, decorating and making sure it has all the things a home needs. We also help make Thanksgiving and Christmas special for our family.
