The 167: December 27, 2019
“On the third day of Christmas…”
It’s an interesting phenomenon. Months of Christmas being on the store shelves and flavored in our coffee drinks. 4 weeks of lighting candles, singing carols, and hearing non-stop Christmas music on some of our radio stations. A season of Advent that is all about waiting, anticipation, and expectation. And then all of a sudden the 25th happens and then pow…it’s all done.
Historically in the church there is the “Season of Christmas.” And it doesn’t even begin until the day of Christmas. And do you know how long it lasts? Yep…for 12 days. Hence the song.
So, maybe you’ve already started to pack away the decorations and switch to a different streaming music channel. But I encourage us all to stay a little longer in the season of Christmas in order to really soak in the mysterious wonder of what God has done through the nativity and to have that further impact and affect our day-to-day after the 12th day.
Happy 3rd Day of Christmas!
