Why I Love This Place!
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24)
I left church on Sunday with a smile on my face. I love this place.
I didn’t just start loving it. I’ve loved Creekside for a long time. More than a decade actually.
On Sunday, I was reminded why I love this place. Here are just three of the reasons. (You’ll want to keep reading. I put the best one last.)
Reason One: People actually like each other.
I have never seen a church that likes to simply “hang out” as much as Creekside. Old people. Young people. Students. Kids. It wasn’t just a group here or there. It was everyone. Inside, outside, and in the hallways. Talking, laughing, eating, and simply doing life together. And I love it.
Reason Two: We are in this together.
Before church started, the “family ministry” folks all gathered to celebrate, debrief the past year, and pro-actively dream about the year ahead. There were a TON of people there. The number of people who serve at Creekside – even now that we’re not “mobile” – is amazing. I have seen too many churches where 10% of the people do 90% of the work. Creekside is not that place. And I love it.
Reason Three: We are different.
Sarah – my oldest daughter – brought a friend to church yesterday for the first time. It wasn’t the first time Sarah had brought a friend to church. It was the first time her friend had ever been to church. Any church. Ever.
She loved it. She sang. She ate. She heard about Jesus. She played. She felt welcomed, because she was welcomed. It was her very first time…and she fit right in.
When we asked Sarah how Rylee liked Creekside, this was her response: “She said it was different than she expected. She thought it would be more formal, and confusing, and ‘religious.’ But it wasn’t. She said it was really fun.”
Yup. I love this place.
